Another Year of Fashion

Another year down and I’m still playing dress up! I’ll be honest with you and openly admit that my fashion game just went downhill over the last part of this year. I didn’t have any motivation to really dress up and take pictures. Truth be told, I was so busy cleaning out my closet from clothing I couldn’t fit any longer. Then I found out I was pregnant so my energy level went to an all time low, which made virtually dressing up cute a task in itself.

I can happily report that I was still able to pull together my top 4 looks from this year and it’s crazy looking at the progress I’ve seen from my consistent workout regime. Even though I didn’t post as many outfit posts, what I can tell from the times that I’ve dressed up is that I am happier than I have been in a long time. The risks that I took this year as I lost weight plus gained muscle and confidence, is easily seen in each of my favorite looks of the year.

I’ll be dressing a baby bump for the first 6 months of 2017, so bear with me as I really try to find my modified personal style with the tiny human taking over my body.

1 | Mix & Match |

At this point, I had been working out for a month and was finally noticing some changes in my body. With my new glasses, you couldn’t tell me anything! I had fully discovered at this point that mixing and match had slowly but surely become a specialty of mine. If you know me (and know me well), black and white stripes are kind of my thing. I love mixing them with any and every pattern I can get my hands on. From cheetah, floral, Southwestern, and much more – I always find a way to make it work. This is a trend that I’m definitely taking into 2017 with lots of flair and style.

2 | Braving the Swimsuit |

The Diversity Chic that we all dreaded and it ended up becoming one of our most popular shoots (thanks to our pineapple with sunglasses). Nerves getting the best of me was an understatement. I was a wreck about putting myself out there in a mesh panel swimsuit for all to see. Hands down this look made the list because it was one of the best representations of why we challenge ourselves with Diversity Chic every month. The amount of love and support by showcasing my curves for this shoot was amazing. This swimsuit also became one of my favorites for the entire summer. Any and every chance I got to wear it, you better believe I flaunted all of my curves off at every pool party in it.

3 | Chambray Vibes |

Hands down the easiest look for me to pick for this list. I loved everything about this chambray top and it was such a steal on Amazon. The ties on the sleeves were the selling point for me and I’m super excited that I can easily pair this with so many different variations for all seasons. If you check out the entire post linked above, you can see that I paired this top with my go to stripes look and the cutest cutout wedges that just tied the entire look together. The best part is that this easily is about to become a staple during this pregnancy during the spring!

4 | Velvet Goodness |

My first experience with dressing the new softness and curves thanks to Baby Girl Ware was a much-needed addition to my favorite looks for many reasons. I was most nervous about this shoot because this dress was fitting pretty short. I also could tell that my midriff was a little rounder and wasn’t sure how this would translate in pictures. Luckily, I didn’t have too much to worry about because you could barely tell that I’ve got some changes happening to my body. Velvet is totally going to be one of my new investment to add to my closet because I loved everything about this entire look.

Another round of favorite looks and I can tell you right now that all of these next year will be from Diversity Chic. I’m taking a step back from fashion-focused posts to really start looking at my life as a millennial venturing into motherhood. Since I’m still processing this next step in my life, I figured it would slowly become a component of my blog. We’ll talk more about that in the next few weeks because a few changes are about to come about around these parts. I can promise you that this will not become a completely mommy-centric blog because 1) I miss vodka too much and 2) “I’m not like a regular mom. I’m a cool mom!

With all of the looks wrapped up, I’m going to close with some words from last year’s post that still resonate today.

“Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” — Rachel Zoe

You don’t have to wear the most expensive clothing or wear tight skin-baring clothing to make a statement. By wearing what’s comfortable for your style, budget, and body type will get you far more respect any day.

See you in 2017!
