Understanding the Importance of Self-Care

It doesn’t matter how many times you hear it, understand that it will never get old – self-care is a priority and necessity. If you aren’t aware of what self-care equates to, let me break it down for you. Self-care is the provision of paying close attention to the necessities of life that will benefit your physical, emotional, and mental health.

This has been on my mind a lot lately as I’ve been struggling with professionally issues and stretching myself too thin on the weekends. It’s definitely made me stop and take the time to remember the important things that I need to accomplish for the best self-care.


Explore your hobbies

Don’t neglect yourself from the hobbies that truly bring joy into your life. If you like to draw, pick up a sketch pad. Enjoy being outdoors, take up hiking or kayaking. Are you more of a writer, start a novel in your spare time. Whatever you enjoy doing, set time aside to devote to cultivating those hobbies. Don’t allow the mundane daily problems of life take over you. You’ll feel better being productive outside of your day to day schedule.

Become aware of the people you allow in your life

I cannot stress the importance of this enough. Believe me when I say that valuing the people who are willing to understand that sometimes self-care requires you to slow down in your life. It’s important as we get older to truly involve the people who make your life easier. Look for people who aren’t afraid to just take a break and enjoy a quiet night at home. The people who are willing to hear you out when you just need a moment to vent. The individuals who are willing to encourage and remind you that self-care should always be a priority.

Take time for yourself

Saving the best for last! It’s so important to take time for yourself at the end of the day and on the weekends. All too often we get caught up in the daily grind and being scene on the weekends that we forget the simplicity of sitting at home doing nothing. Go on a walk around your neighborhood, read a book, take an entire day to explore the city you live in, or just binge a Netflix show! It’s crucial to reconnect with yourself and your happy center to achieve the most in life.

    These are all great ways to start and I like to think that I’ve learned to practice self-care a lot better than a few years ago. Number 2 is so important, especially as we grow up. We become more busy and time-deprived which means spending our time with people who actually bring positivity also become more important. Why hang out with toxic people? It’s just a waste of your time.

    I like to pamper myself at least twice a week as part of self-care. I’ll put in more effort on my makeup or I’ll take more time with my skincare at night and throw in a face mask. By taking care of myself, I feel more pretty and it also helps me build confidence!

      Michelle! I have slowly weeded out the toxic people in my life and it makes for such better conversation. I’m not constantly bogged down with the me mentality of some of the former individuals that were in my life.

      I absolutely love the pamper yourself at least twice a week. I try to wear a bold color lipstick to work at least once a week to boost my confidence!

    Hi Sevi!
    These self-care tips are great! We all need to take more time for ourselves. I like to spend time alone in my gym, or binge watch some Grey’s Anatomy with a pint of ice cream. Life has been so crazy lately, and I definitely need some me time.

      A good binge session and ice cream will make any day better! I keep telling myself that my next binge session will need to be Grey’s. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do. Take your me time and enjoy it!
