The struggle is real. And when I refer to struggle, I mean my natural hair struggle! Ok, since I got my amazing trim and new products, it hasn’t been that bad. Actually I’ve been in a good place with my hair. Minimal manipulation of my precious tresses has been key over the last two weeks.
With the Curator’s Choice event for the DMA Junior Associates last Friday, I had to make a big decision on what to do with my hair. What I can firmly identify with myself is that I have never been skilled at styling my hair. I need someone else to do it for me or else I’m going to wash this pile of curls and call it a day. Seeing as I was attempting to determine if this young professionals group was my cup of tea, it was only right that I branch out from my typical run of the mill hairstyles.
I took a serious leap of faith and washed my hair last Thursday. Not only did I do that, I decided that I would test the water with some flexirods. Now, before you start thinking what I was thinking this entire time I was experimenting (my thoughts – “FIX IT JESUS”) remember this is a huge break through from my tried and true afro.
The shampoo bar and deep conditioning treatment was heaven on earth. My curls have never looked so hydrated and full of life! Then came the true testament of figuring out what the hell I was doing with 3 new packages of flexirods. After a few failed attempts, I figured out a method that would work for my hair. I went with a simple two-strand method and then proceeded to wrap those two-strand twists around flexirods. After all of the twists were secured and under a silk warp, I was ready for a full night of sleep.
I’ve already given you a sneak peek of the outcome when I posted about the Curator’s Choice, but let’s just say – your girl stepped up her game and slayed. The style turned out flawless and I was very pleased with the bounce in my curls after applying some curl hydration spray. It left my hair very airy and lightweight which was a huge upgrade from all of the older products I used in the past.
It was an extremely classy look, easy to complete, and I look forward to trying out new styles.
Just remember on the days you are struggling to get it together….Beyonce wasn’t built in a day!
