Can you actually put selfie in the same category as cultured and refined?
After the weekend that I’ve just experienced, I would say yes. If you can recall, I joined the DMA Junior Associates , a Young Professionals Group, and slowly have been integrating a variety of their planned events into my schedule.
Well, the party of the century for the Dallas Museum of Art landed during the weekend of the Dallas Art Fair. This was my opportunity to culture myself with impressive arts from near and far, then doll myself up for a night of rubbing shoulders with Dallas’ movers and shakers.
Our afternoon at the Dallas Art Fair was amazing, we were privy to an exclusive tour of a select group of exhibitions at the Art Fair with Erin Cluley. The afternoon was very pleasant as we were afforded an special opportunity to a deeper understanding behind the artists for these certain exhibitions. It was also a great opportunity to mingle with my fellow DMA Junior Associates. Small world that I would run into Emilee, who just happens to be working on starting up her own blog. Mutual friend, the fabulous Stephanie Drenka, who just happens to take photos for the gorgeous Emilee. So shout out to you Emilee! Can’t wait to read your blog and hang out at some JA events!
I also learned that I’ve been missing out on a hidden gem in Dallas by not visiting the Dallas Art Fair! I’ve already made plans to attend next year’s festivities.
Of course, the crew looked dashing as we mingled, admired art, and had an opportunity to try out the free Nespresso bar.
After parting from the Junior Associates and snagging a few coffee table publications, the S&M show headed back to M’s place to wind down.
M stated it best, it’s so hard being a socialite and we needed some down time before the big evening. After changing into comfy pants, we were ready for our beauty rest! Upon waking up, the real party began. Another full face of make up later, I was pulling my jumpsuit on to get ready to dance the night away.
Our fellow JA, Dr. K (yes, she’s really a doctor) joined us at M’s house and we were on our way to the Art Ball After Party!
The drinks were strong, the crowd was ready to party, and I was ready to dance! The guest DJ for the evening was none other than Solange Knowles – the baby sister of my BFF, the Queen, Beyonce. I was seriously on edge the entire time waiting for her to come out, but clearly I wasn’t the only one. Before Solange’s actually set kicked off, they had a DJ spinning some quick tunes to pump the crowd up.
That’s when M spotted this lady making a bold statement…on top of a table. Sorry for the photo, but I frantically scrambled to snap this picture before she was promptly taken off the table.
Sidenote: I did my research and found her on Instagram. She was there with her son and posed for a picture with quite a few of Dallas’ elite.
Shortly after this, the skies parted and the light shined on the glorious being that is known as Solange. From that moment, I left the dance floor for 3 songs out of a 3 hour DJ set. Solange destroyed the Art Ball After Party with the dopest tunes that had me belting out notes one minute and dropping it like it was hot the next. To top it off she was DJing on a one table set the entire evening!
I danced, drank, and made some serious deep connections with Solange as she spun the best tunes all evening long. The S&M show and Dr. K shut down that dance floor. It was well worth it.
And that’s how you break being the typical Dallas Socialite.
Oh and because the theme was Selfie, enjoy this one!
