S to the E to the….you get the idea! Moesha was my show and it’s only right that for our 9th installment of Diversity Chic we tackled the REAL revival, the 90s! Sorry 70s trend, you can have several seats.
From Moesha, Hanging with Mr. Copper, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and All That – I’m what you will call the quintessential 90s kid. Jellies, pogs, Sonic the Hedgehog, and butterfly clips were just a few of the privileges I relished in as child of the 90s. Let’s face it – the 90s were a time of proving that you were all that and a bag of chips.

Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.
Our focus is to explore the world of fashion in its unique, diverse, and stylish manner – one trend at a time.
This month was definitely a special treat in so many ways because we had the talented Lindsay Steele Photography taking our photos and I was treated to a complimentary makeup application with Heather Michaels Make Up! Unfortunately, Jordan of Darling Truly has been traveling so she had to miss out on this round but the beautiful Denise of Beauty and the Pleats joined up for a little throwback fun.
I’m so excited to share this whole shoot with you. I apologize in advance for all the pictures but they are too awesome not to share!
Let’s discuss my look –
About the Outfit
This outfit is very whimsical and reminiscent of all things 90s. From the velveteen top to the knee high socks, this is a look that I’m ready to carry into fall. For the shoot, I opted to wear the boots and a crossbody to emulate a fun night out on the town with you ladies. It’s not too fancy, so it’s definitely an outfit that you want to take to you favorite dive bar. What tied this entire outfit together was the fantastic make up application by Heather Michael Make Up. I showed her a few looks that I wanted to draw inspiration from and she slayed the look. SLAYED IT. The dark lips that blended so well with my top was everything, I tried to convince myself that I should sleep in this makeup it was so amazing.
All in all I am loving, I am loving this look and looking forward to tossing a denim jacket and tights on for the colder temperatures….if Texas ever gets cooler.
About the Trend
Whenever I think of the 90s – I instantly remember how obsessed I was with Brandy, Monica, SWV, Xscape, and the list goes on. From their hair, makeup, and outfits they were my idols. As I was pulling together my outfit for this look, I opted to channel my inner Moesha played by the talented Brandy Norwood. I was totally Moesha. The young girl who was just trying to find her way and place in life with the good and challenging times she faced. She was headstrong and always fought for what she believed in. What I loved most about the character is that she was independent and had a fashion sense of her own – never compromising to fit the everyday teenage norm.
What I love about the 90s trend making a revival is that it literally leaves your options open to be a colorful individual even in a muted manner. The individuality with your style with 90s trends really sets a tone with your personality. For me, I like jewel tones and that worked so well with my skin tone and my normal attire. The 90s are back and I am living for it.
