Technically we shot these in May! HAHA!
The May edition of Diversity Chic is here and we are thrilled to share this month’s trend with you all.
I won’t even lie, Dallas has had a lot of rain this month and proved difficult for us to actually coordinate our schedules to sneak this fun photoshoot together. The stars aligned and we ended up with the most perfect weather on Memorial Day.
If you are new to this, get the low down on what this unique series is all about:
Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.
Our focus is to explore the world of fashion in its unique, diverse, and stylish manner – one trend at a time.
This month, it only seemed right to focus on the pool vibes we are all feeling. Summer is so close we can all taste it! The sun is shining and temperatures continue to rise as we gear up for pool parties and BBQ.
About the Outfit
Full disclosure, I was very nervous about this Diversity Chic. The work that I’ve been putting in at Kaia during this Brik session has been monumental. It paid off the other week when we did assessments and I had lost 4 inches in my waist alone. That alleviated a little of the stress, but I was still very apprehensive of putting myself – my body out here for everyone to see. Then it finally hit me that I have worked hard to wear a swimsuit this summer season and my body is just that…my body.
My decision was quickly made when I attempted to go and put my older swimsuits on. They don’t fit. Everything is starting to feel looser – WIN! This became the perfect excuse to treat myself to a new swimsuit. The best part of this treat is that I purchased a LARGE. If you know me and my workout journey, this was a huge deal for me.
This is the first Diversity Chic in a while that I’ve actually had to go out and purchase new items for and I wasn’t even mad. I opted to visit my local Target to browse their racks for a good deal. This mesh cutout swimsuit and these mustard colored shorts were perfect for a backyard pool party. The swimsuit helped with keeping cool while I wasn’t in the pool and very flattering for my curves. The pom pom shorts are definitely going to be a staple that you see all summer long. They are a perfect fit and go well with a swimsuit for those pool parties and can easily be paired with a dressy black top for a night out with the ladies.
About the Trend
Summer calls for swimsuits and shorts, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. The best part about summer these days is that there are a number of different designers catering to women of all sizes. Let’s face it, I’m a curvy chick and I’ve fully come to embrace that. Finding swimsuits that accentuate my best assets was key for me. Target is killing the swimsuit game and I found the perfect one to go with my summer theme. While I’m more than comfortable with a two piece, this mesh cutout swim fits like a glove and definitely screams sexy.
One pieces are back in and they aren’t your old school 90s high V cut suits. They are classy, sexy, and fun for the lady who wants to show off all the confidence she has in her body. Whether it’s a one piece or two, make this summer your own and flaunt your style.
Be sure to visit the other summertime looks for this month’s Diversity Chic.
