Diversity Chic: Velvet Goodness

Wait a minute, is this really the December 2016 edition of Diversity Chic?!? Wow! I don’t think I have the time to describe how crazy it is that we’ve made it another year.

If you’re new to this whole movement, let me give you a quick rundown of what Diversity Chic is all about:

Diversity Chic is a collaboration of Dallas bloggers showcasing current fashion trends on a variety of skin tones, hair colors, body types and heights. Each month we will feature a new trend tailored to our personalities and style.

Our focus is to explore the world of fashion in its unique, diverse, and stylish manner – one trend at a time.

If you’ve been here since January of 2015 – thank you so much for sticking with us! Your support for this movement has been amazing and we seriously couldn’t have continued this without all of you. The motivation and excitement we feel each month from posting our sneak peek and hearing that you all are super excited about seeing what the next trend might be means the world. This project is probably one of my favorite reasons to continue this blog because breaking the constant mold of what a so-called fashion blogger is supposed to be is exhilarating. Each of us possesses a unique fashion/style personality that we know resonates with women in the world, so as long as we are all blogging and can coordinate our schedules – we’ll be here.

So once again, thank you so much. Thank you! THANK YOU! It’s been a wild year and we are so grateful that you’ve stuck with us this far. Let’s talk about the real elephant in the room….

Can you believe that Christmas is just a few days away? If you’re anything like me, you’ve still got those last few people that you need to shop for and this week is strictly dedicated to making sure that you snag those last minute gifts you may need. Diversity Chic is here to help you out if you are in the Dallas area because we partnered with the lovely Vintage House of Downtown Carrollton for those fashionistas that you need to please in your life.

With December being the month of holiday parties and events, we made the collective decision to piggyback on the hot trend of velvet goodness for our winter looks. This is year two of wearing velvet for our holiday looks, so just expect it for a long as Diversity Chic continues.

It’s always so exciting dressing for holiday events and getting to get extra dolled up. Since I’m firmly against wearing red and green to festivities, I was super excited to come across this blue midi dress with a nice v-neck to show off a little skin (linked similar styles below). I do need to call attention to the fact that things are starting to fit much differently now that I am pregnant. This dress was not as flowy as I imagined it to be. My new curves thanks to this little one are definitely making their presence known. I opted to take the cooler winter weather in mind and add black tights and heels to complete the look.

With every holiday party, the right accessories are key to really making an outfit. I was fortunate enough to find this beautiful Vera Bradley Elena Crossbody Bag in Bronze Age at The Vintage House that paired perfectly with my outfit. This beautiful bag is the perfect last minute accessory for the lady who loves to dress up and be on the go with friends. From holiday parties, date night, or brunch with your favorite ladies this bag is perfect for carrying around the necessities without toting the things you don’t need at the moment. It’s fancy enough to dress up and being a cross body it is simple enough to dress down for a quick night out.

One of my favorite parts about Diversity Chic is that we all have completely different styles which makes showing up for our shoots so much fun. As we all arrived at The Vintage House to search for the perfect accessories, it was so amazing to see the variety of ways velvet can be jazzed up for the holidays. We each took this velvet trend, made it our own, and then paired it with the most beautiful accessories that fit our personality and style sense.
