If you’re lucky, you are in Dallas right now experiencing a sneak peek of what’s to come this fall. Forget the fact that the weather has been gloomy and we’ve been dealing with on and off rain. Let’s celebrate that we haven’t been subjected to the sheer torture of the toppling 100 degree weather for a brief period. If you’re anything like me, you have already started planning and prepping for your fall wardrobe. If you’re anything like my smart friend Stephanie Drenka, you racked up during the Nordstrom Sale! Since the weather is cooler and I’m feeling some type of way about fall quickly approaching now that school is back in session, I wanted to pull together a fall style guide for planning ahead for the cooler weather!
Revisit Personal Style Assessment
I cannot explain how important it is to have an idea of what your personal style is. It gives you such a great starting point for cleaning out your closet, shopping future clothes, and resisting impulses buys. My go to method all began with Valery Brennan’s closet clean out and personal style assessment. I’ve mentioned it before and cannot implore to you how beneficial these tools have been for my style growth. For the fall, I’m sticking with my black & white stripes, leopard print, and jewel tones. I also have plans to pepper in a few floral prints as well!
Focus on key pieces for fall wardrobe
My closet is pretty simple at the moment and I’ve only been focusing on certain pieces throughout most of the summer. I haven’t strayed away from these key pieces and when I have made purchases, they all aligned wonderfully with the style of my wardrobe. For the fall, I opted to just focus on 5 quality key pieces to add to my closet to build from. My wish list consists of a long-sleeve tee, lightweight sweater, cardigan, blazer, and a black skirt. These pieces are going to work well with the current foundation that I’ve already built and I’ll easily be able to add more pieces similar to them into my wardrobe rotation. My goal is to try out a few thrift stores to see what luck I may have finding multiple key pieces for the low!
Don’t forget accessories!
Every fall I tend to stick with my tried and true scarves that I’ve had for the last few years. NOT in 2016! Since I’ve done a drastic revamp of my wardrobe, I decided that it was time to grow up with my accessories for the fall. If you followed Stephanie’s #NSale picks, you would know that she mentioned that a drawstring bucket tote would be the go to bag this fall. Well, I capitalized and purchased a black BP faux leather bucket tote and the reviews are in – it’s fantastic and I have already received a ton of compliments.
In addition the tote bag, I’ve already snagged a cute skinny scarf thanks to my PopSugar Must Have Box (use SHOP5 for $5 off your first one here) that fits my wardrobe beautifully. The last accessory on my coveted fall wishlist is a pair of sleek boots. I’ve been shopping around because I love a good pair of boots that I can wear with nearly everything. Take a look and let me know what you think from my top picks below.
