My job has blessed me enough to have every Friday off this entire summer. Any normal person would be taking advantage of this rare time and catch up on their beauty sleep – oh no, not I.
I haven’t formally sat down to write out my passions and causes in life, but one that is near and dear to me is Susan G. Komen. This is not the post for that story, nor do I think I am ready to really pour my heart out on it just yet.
In short, I have taken the challenge of fundraising $2300 to walk 60 miles in 3 days this fall. You read that right, 60 miles in 3 days. It’s been done and it will continue to be done until a cure is found. The team I am walking with Angels for the Cure have been making a tremendous impact since 2008 and I am honored to have earned my wings to walk this year.
We were invited to come out to News 8 Daybreak to promote our upcoming car wash this weekend and be presented with a check from Kroger for their Neighbor to Neighbor Program ($29,399.00).
Being the lover of sleep that I am, I contemplated whether or not I would be making the bright and early trek for the 5am to 7am program. Luckily, I have two very persuasive individuals in my life (Momma Claire and Momma Charlene) that I just cannot seem to say no to.
Let me explain my disdain for an alarm at 3:20am – it should be illegal for anyone to be up at that time. I couldn’t focus and kept thinking about my amazing bed calling my name. As we embarked on our journey down to Victory Plaza, I behaved myself and didn’t fall asleep on the way (with no traffic on the roads, you get places a lot faster in Dallas).
As we walked up to Victory Plaza, I caught my first glimpse of him – Greg Fields. Due to my summer hours, I am usually in a rush to leave the house early in the morning – I catch my weather on the WFAA app and its usually with Greg Fields. Imagine my excitement when DJ LC let us know that we would get to actually take pictures with the morning crew.
All my disdain for being up at the illegal time of 3:20am without being drunk or nearing the point of at least battling a horrid hangover was wiped away.
I was going to get to meet Greg Fields and the rest of the Day Break crew! If you’ve never had the chance to hang out at one of the Party on the Plaza – I would highly recommend it. The staff were totally cool and accommodating, Cynthia and Greg were a pleasure to meet and mingle with, and Ron Corning is a life size personality and so handsome. Alexa was busy with the fatal accident that occurred in the metroplex, but she looked absolutely stunning in person.
If you can’t tell from this post – I was in absolute starstruck mode the entire time I was outside and on set. During the entire time, I got to talk to Greg twice and even mentioned my disappointment when WareBear didn’t register for a class he was teaching at the local community college. WFAA were kind enough to get a picture of us together, because I am his biggest fan and will only watch the weather with him (I got mad love for the rest of the weather team though).
The only way I can sum this entire morning up is simply FREAKISHLY AWESOME NEWS 8 FRIDAY!
