Birthdays are such a joyous time of the year. Who doesn’t want to be showered in gifts and praised with birthday wishes from all your friends and family? Who doesn’t enjoy the endless notifications on Facebook alerting you that a handful of your 1,005 friends wishing you a happy day?
Of course, I am spending mine a little under the weather but that doesn’t matter.
I love my birthday.
Every year it comes and I reflect back on how wonderfully blissful the past year has been. I feel like my birthday re-defines my purpose in life. It’s my one moment to truly realize and remember how blessed and lucky I am to make it to see yet another year.
So here we are for number 27 in 2013!
I’ve spent the last 8 years (nearly 6 married) with a kind and loving man who couldn’t be a better partner in my life. My goals have gotten grander and grander with each year that I realize that I am capable of doing more than the year before. My palette for a fine glass of wine has honed to a level of graceful skills over the years. Slowly, I am earning a Master’s Degree. Eventually, I’ll give in to some motherly instinct to make beautiful mulatto babies with WareBear.
I am taking each and every one of these small moments to relish in life and all of its blessings. To live a fulfilled life, you have to make sacrifices. There will be days when it doesn’t seem like its so easy. You will be faced with challenges that will test you beyond measures you think you should be tested on. Remember that you have to have faith. Faith that life is beautiful. The simple things are worth it. You are loved and worth everything.
So happy birthday to me!
