Do It Yourself

Indigo LaRue and my Sweatshop

Sewing is like riding a bike, once you learn the skill – it’s really hard to forget it. This past weekend I took a ride with Indigo LaRue before this hellish last semester of grad school starts.

The sewing group that I am apart of, Sew Modern Dallas Chicks, has been in the process of making a messenger bag. This weekend was my opportunity to dedicate to the project. Our awesome moderator created a 3 part video that was very easy to follow for both novice and seasoned veterans.

Let’s just say, I got a little carried away. After my first one, I couldn’t stop. While I was running errands on Friday, I found the most PERFECT fabric for my mom. I love to put a smile on her face, so I was all in at that point and made her a bag. She loved it.

Then Instagram created a stir because once someone sees that you can make something, they want one as well. I just can’t say no to my favorite people!

My sewing room has become a sweatshop and I am fine with that. I literally have had back pains from all of the sewing that I have been doing over the past 3 days and it’s the best feeling ever. What makes it even better is that I have been enjoying the detox time with Indigo LaRue!

I’ve made it a priority to sew something every week – even if it’s just piecing together quilt tops that I need to have ready for when I am finished with grad school.

Any projects on your plate for the year?!?

Oh goodness how cute are those bags!! I never learned to sew much to my mother and grandmother’s dismay. I’m crafty in other ways though so I don’t feel too bad.

Thank you! As long as you are crafty in other ways – that is where it counts.

Sewing was so easy to pick up. I took one class and it turned into this blossoming thing I for fun know.

Thank you Heather! It’s been too long since I sewed, so I needed this time!
