After nearly missing my flight to actually get to New Bern, I made it safe and sound! I had to hoof it clear across the Charlotte airport in order to make it in time.
I arrived and Gidget was ready to go. When I say we took a tour of the land, I came and conquered all in the first day. It even included a quick stop to visit ol’ Nicholas Sparks at his house. It wasn’t that spectacular, as he has a massive gate guarding his humble abode. Also, ended up scoring a vintage Addy American Girl Doll (always wanted one when I was a kid) and some old school Girl Scout gear at a local antique mall!
Honestly, I couldn’t have picked better place to come and visit. New Bern is the cutest little town with such rich history. Not only that, it’s ridiculously green! The trees are beautiful and the weather has been perfect.
After getting back home and settled, we took our first spin with our machines together. Our first project, the awesome burlap tote. Mind you, this tote goes for $30 bucks on Etsy….no thank you! I got a sewing machine and would much rather take my chances using it to create my own version of the tote. How flipping cute did this bag come out?!?! Mind you, we had some serious plans to hit up Hobby Lobby and destroy their fabric section for all of our remaining projects for the weekend. This tote totally would come in handy at that point. This was a simple project that actually too much longer that I thought it would, because of taking so many factors into place. Two people cutting, pressing, and measuring out fabric is no joke. Then it came to the point of lining and making perfect handles for each of the bags. I’ll let Gidget post about hers on her blog, but it’s super cuter than mine.
Amidst all of this vacation fun by the afternoon of day 2, my dear baby sister welcomed baby Ezra into the world. Yes, baby Ezra is here and cuter than ever. He clearly could not wait until his papa or favorite aunt was in town to see his way into the world. So, I’m the proud aunt of a bouncing baby boy by the name of Ezra Preston (Gidget pointed out that he does have three first name – when his last name is included).
By the time he arrived, Gidget and I had hit up Hobby Lobby in full force. After having lunch and exploring Beaufort, NC – we headed back to start our next projects….the quilts….
More about those and that craziness in the next post….
Oh and I should be asleep right now, but really wanted to get part one finished. Gidget, I had to make up for the last two hours we wasted watching Breaking Dawn Part 2 by finishing this post before bed!
