Recently, I’ve been extremely lazy when it comes to my curly afro. No reason in particular, but I made the decision 6 years ago to wear my hair in this manner to avoid the constant battle I use to have. Here’s the thing, I like easy. The easier the effort and work that I need to put into it, the more I’m going to make it happen. Now that I’ve embraced this kinky tresses and moved far away from ever being tempted to chemically straighten them again – I’m always searching for easier ways to cut my styling time in the morning.
Besides needing to schedule an appointment right now to go and get my ends trimmed, I’ve spent most of the summer magically perfecting the best wash and go for my curls. It took some trial and error with a variety of different products, but I nailed it down to 5 that have changed my life. The best part about these 5 products, a wide tooth comb, and a satin cap is that I can guarantee that I’ve had some of the best wash and gos that lasted a complete week (with big beautiful fluffy loose curls by the end of the week).
TRUE Nourishing Leave-in Conditioner
Immediately after washing my hair, I use a wide tooth comb to detangle with this leave-in conditioner. Not only does it leave my hair extremely moisturized, its so soft and my curls are incredibly defined. This is the perfect conditioner to prep for gelle that I use to hold the definition of my curls.
Goddess CURLS Botanical Gelle
This gelle was purchased on a whim and probably one of my secret weapons when it comes to the perfect wash and go. It holds curls so well and adds so much definition to your curl pattern. The best part about this product is that it doesn’t feel heavy or leave residue on your hair. I typically section my hair out and use about a quarter size amount on each section and finger detangle my precious curls for the body and definition this product provides.
TRUE Quench Curl Refresher
This curl refresher pairs well with the leave in conditioner with providing your curls with the moisture it loves so much after sleeping under a satin cap. I use a generous amount of this spray because your hair can never have too much hydration to help your curls bounce back.
Lavish CURLS Moisturizer
This product is actually made to reactive those curls formed from the gelle. It’s the perfect counterpart that doesn’t require much. A few spritz of this all over your head and a quick finger detangle will revitalize your curls with ease. Often, I will just use this as it does add quite a bit of moisture back into your curls as well.
To add body and fluff, I use my wide tooth comb close to my scalp to add some height. It’s really easy to do and makes the look even more refreshing for the next few days.
OBIA Curl Hydration Spray
For days 5-7, I’m usually too busy to even think about my next wash day and I need to salvage my curls to make it through the end of the week. That’s where OBIA’s curl hydration spray comes into play. For these final days, I literally just use this one product that I have no shame in buy 2-3 bottles every time I purchase it. It’s my saving grace and literally will revitalize my hair with a few spritz. This formula is so light and definitely leaves your hair feeling fresh even if its been a few days since your last wash day. It is a game changer!
Believe me when I say that by the end of the week, my curls are big and fluffy in the absolute best ways. Don’t believe me, check out this fabulous boomerang from Instagram after a week long wash and go!
