Do It Yourself

Welcome to the New Homeowner Reality

I’m back in the good ol’ US of A and couldn’t be more thrilled to be here.

Don’t get me wrong, Mexico was everything. Everything that I needed at the time (a break, a siesta, an escape from reality, endless drinks, etc.), but now its time to put some serious work in.

If you have been living under a rock, we moved! In just one month, we managed to get everything out of our old house and into the new house (while renovating at the same time). This was not the ideal situation, but a fantastic deal came along that we couldn’t pass up. I would not recommend to anybody to move into a house that they are renovating on their own, unless you have the patience and means to do so. With that, we are trucking along without a kitchen and lots of boxes stacked here and there.

At the rate we are going, it’s looking like we will have a fully functioning kitchen at the end of the month. Our fridge, stove, and dishwasher are all here, we are only missing 3 cabinets (order was messed up, but it’s been fixed), and the flooring should be laid this week. You can totally tell a difference from the before and after:

The photos are from different angles because I wanted to show off my new laundry area that is nearly completed, but you get the idea. PROGRESS, people there is some significant progress being made! What I’ve come to the conclusion after talking to a variety of different people in regards to home renovations and being a homeowner is that there really is never an end to the projects. Something always pops up and needs to be repaired or updated. This is what it’s like to be an adult!

To top this all off, we need to revisit a post I wrote a couple weeks back regarding Pinterest ruining my life. Go ahead and go read it, if you aren’t familiar with my claims.

Ok, you’re back. Two confessions:

1. In reference to Pinterest Ruiner One: My kitchen is all white. Cabinets and appliances! In my defense, does a white kitchen count with being unrealistic? Also, the ways are going to be a grayish blue so that will hopefully take away from all the white eating away at my soul.

2. In reference to Pinterest Ruiner Three: I have found a hidden gem of a thrift store/resale shop and it is beautiful. Yesterday, David and I made a quick drop in to check them out. Little did we know that everything in the store was 50% off….EVERYTHING. I convinced him that I needed not one, but two chairs.

They are life and totally going to bring our living area together perfectly! At least that’s what I keep telling David, he tends to panic when my eclectic side starts to shine. He loves me and is willing deal with my bargain steals I find. They are both in fantastic shape and have so much flavor it’s awesome!

I am hoping to have my Mexico trip blogged this week, so I can spend a fast majority of my time talking about our home renovations and the exciting things I have going on in the next few weeks.

I’ll be the first to say, it’s so good to be back and I cannot wait to catch up on my favorite blogs.

I swear, we’ve been in our house 9 months and you’re probably further along with unpacking, lol! Glad to have you back!

I honestly do not feel like that at all. It’s so stressful! I really hope that I can get things together soon. I just feel like we are still swimming in boxes (we kind of are!)
