Do It Yourself

Where Geeky and Hip Collide, Part Deux

CRAFTRAVAGANZA 2014 was a success! It’s not often that another blogger doesn’t mind a complete stranger showing up at her place to kidnap her for a full day of crafting!

Elise from CheekyGeeks was brave enough to spend an entire day on the fabric prowl with me, then come back to my humble abode to sew. WareBear was kind enough to finish setting up our whole sewing setup (pressing and cutting station included). With the house all set up, the stage was set.

Look at this gorgeous fabric!

Look at this gorgeous fabric!

We started at the new CityCraft, which hands down will be the most amazing fabric store in Dallas soon. They are still setting up, which is understandable, because the space that they are in is massive compared to their old location. Callie (CityCraft owner) was setting up different fabrics, yarns, and making the place look all pretty – while Elise and I shopped away. I found the prettiest fabric by the name of Candy Party by Kokka. It was one of those moments when I knew that I was going to stop doing everything that I had planned to work with the beautiful gem.

After lunch at Twisted Root Burger, the real fun started! Elise and I are two peas in a pod. It was like meeting up with a really good friend that you haven’t seen in awhile and cracking the most hilarious jokes. It was sewing, laughs, and endless jokes! To top that all off, Elise finished an adorable purse (find it on her blog) while I accomplished piecing together my second quilt top.

It was an amazing Friday afternoon and I am so glad that I skipped doing studying to make it happen. WareBear keeps telling me that I deserved it (even when I stayed up ridiculously late Friday night doing homework). To be honest, it was worth. So worth it, that I took my time this evening working on that amazing fabric that I found. Candy Party is not justified with just the pictures – the animal print portion has GOLD GLITTER in it.

This quilt is for me! Sometimes you need to make a clean break from other obligations and do something for yourself. This was my inspiration –

I can’t wait to share more! Happy Monday people!
