This past weekend I conquered something that I never thought I would participate in, the Susan G. Komen Dallas 3-Day Walk. I’ve been a supporter of my close friends that have embarked on this journey, but never pictured myself taking that leap of faith to walk 60 miles in 3 days.
For some odd reason, I managed to let a few special people talk me into it. I spent a vast majority of October raising the $2300 to walk in the event and crammed all of my homework into two days so I wouldn’t have any worries.
I learned so much this past weekend in so many different aspects. The courage, hope, and determination that I witnessed in complete strangers as they each embarked on this 60 mile journey for their own personal reasons was enough to put everything into perspective. This year I’ve conquered quite a few different feats in my life and I am continuing to do so. This weekend was my wake up call that life is too precious to take for granted. Live freely, enjoy life, and remember that you have so much worth living for. Watching the tears of survivors and the heartache of those who have lost loved ones to any type of cancer changes you. It makes you really look at those people in your life that you cherish so dearly that you don’t want to lose.
I am thankful that I still have Nan and Claire in my life to continue to shower with love and remind them that they are everything to me. This weekend showcased the sheer amount of love, determination, and hope that every single walker in Dallas had as they embarked on this trek.
I met a variety of new friends, had close friends and family cheering me on each step of the way, and a reality check that you can’t control everything that happens – but you have to take care of yourself.
Someone asked, will you do it again? In a heartbeat.
Was it worth? Every dime sure was.
How are you feeling? I’ve gained a greater understanding of this purpose in my life.
Here’s to Dallas 2014!
